Bowls vs. plates

1 Nov

In China once you finish the different dishes you put the food on a large plate and bring it to the table.  Each person receives a small bowl with rice and then helps themselves one bite at a time to the shared plates.  In the US, the finished dishes are often put in bowls and then you fix an entire large plate of food for yourself at the beginning of the meal.

I’ve seen mothers here scold children for taking too much food at the beginning of the meal.  It is very bad manners to take the last piece of something when dining in a restaurant.

Another difference between the two cultures.  Have you noticed anything similar?
